Day 4/5

Overnight in Riverwalk RV Park – Fortuna, CA

Driving through the Giant Redwood forest in Northern California.  Spectacular day with sunlight filtering through the trees.  We encountered a lengthy section of the State park that must have had a land slide and were stopped  long enough to use the toilet.  What a wonderful convenience to have it just steps away.  Joy is driving and said to me that “when  we stop, I can run into the bushes”.  Guess she hasn’t been in the long enough to remember there is a washroom on board!  I sat at the table in the back and had the sorest ass after an hour sitting on the crappy seat.  So moved up front to keep Joy company.  Won’t be sitting there again.

We decided to stay in Trinidad CA at the Sounds of the Sea Resort.  I had a weird feeling about the place when I called ahead to reserve.  The lady didn’t mention the name of the place when she answered the phone…just Hello.  We get there and have to phone her from the registration office to open it.  There were two other ladies waiting for her as well.  We thought originally that we would stay 2 nights but with quick eye signals – booked in for 1 night only.  It was to be a site with ocean view and we could hear the sea lions barking from the registration area.  Our site was up a gravel hill and if you stood about 2 meters in front of our unit, you could see a blue patch on the horizon through the trees and around the huge motorhome right beside us.  The washrooms and shower were back down the hill so no chance of deaking out in the dark!  The access to the ocean was 1/2 mile down the road and then hike down.  By this point we both had a  bad vibe so we decided to pull out and get our money back.  But guess what – the registration office was locked tight and our host was no where to be found.  So we just bailed and drove away.  Lesson learned – if the facility sign is not maintained and it just doesn’t feel right – then drive on!

We drove to Fortuna to a place that Joy had selected from our Woodall book. We checked into Riverwalk which is very nice and quite popular.  There was an outdoor pool and spa but since it is still to chilly, we didn’t partake in either.
